EVALIN KARIJO

Director
Ms. Evalin Karijo provides overall leadership and management of Y-ACT Youth in Action. Young, dynamic and equally agile – Evalin has led Y-ACT to become one of the fastest growing networks of youth advocates & youth advocacy organizations in the region, promoting MYE in policy and decision-making processes with a focus on Gender Equality and SRHR. She has nine years’ work experience at Amref Health Africa advancing the health of women, adolescents and youth in Kenya, with four years in management, including Senior Management responsibilities. She has a strong understanding of youth and the youth advocacy landscape in Kenya and has received various recognitions including Siasa Place and Management Africa (September 2018 issue) for her leadership role at Amref Health Africa. She is a Public Health Specialist (Masters in International Public Health from the University of Liverpool – UK) and also holds a Global Executive MBA in health leadership and management from USIU-Africa.

Sylvia Wamugi

Deputy Director - Advocacy, Communications and Strategic Partnerships
Sylvia Wamugi, the creative whizzball that is constantly churning out colourful ideas for the project. She is passionate about social advocacy, communications and women’s right to health. 
As the Deputy Director, she is responsible for advocacy communications capacity-strengthening, developing online engagement strategies and campaign strategies for youth, leading the establishment of partnerships with similar organizations, and reaching out to advocates and partners through traditional and social media, print materials, etc. She holds a Masters (Hons.) degree in International Communications Management (Development) from University of Warwick (UK), and a Bachelors Degree in International Relations from the United States International University – Africa. She has over 12 years experience in the humanitarian sector, nine of which include leading advocacy communications in various organizations including Save the Children – Sweden, Oxfam, IPAS Africa Alliance and the Advocacy Accelerator. Her adaptability, curiosity and adventure-spirit has led her to work in humanitarian contexts such as Somalia and Sudan, and later in health development with a focus on SRHR in Africa.

Vania Kibui

Policy Advocacy Specialist
An Advocate of the High Court of Kenya, Vania makes law look fun and appealing. She is a public policy, human rights and advocacy specialist with nine years’ progressive experience in reproductive health and rights, gender equality and good governance.
She also has extensive experience working with state mechanisms in departments of health, the judiciary, the National Assembly, regional treaty monitoring bodies and non-state actors to increase access to essential health care services and the right to health. She is also a skilled facilitator and trainer. Trust Vania to make advocacy trainings engaging, exciting, thought-provoking and contextual. She has trained a number of youth advocates to engage with systems and processes that promote and protect the rights of women and girls to access the rights; including the right to access public services and vibrant public participation.

Jenny is passionate firecracker. She’s all about young people, their ingenuity and creativity and drive to use technology to champion for innovative solutions in solving global challenges and in accelerating African economies. She is interested in designing youth programs and advocating for youth-led policy frameworks at international, regional, national, and grassroot levels.
Jenny has over five years’ experience in youth-led initiatives and has served as the National Youth Representative of the Multi-sectoral initiative against anti-corruption as well as the implementation working group of the Youth on the Building Bridges Initiative. She is also a member of the Economic pillar of the Kenya Young Parliamentarians Association (KYPA) Stakeholder Reference Group. She holds Bachelors Degree in International Business Administration from the United States International University-Africa, and a MastersDegree in International Relations.

Steve is the guy that brings out the beautiful in our stories. He is the photographer and graphic designer. He is passionate about film making, photography, editing and his dexterity with the camera has been his global ticket to countries around the world. Outside of Y-ACT, Steve has played a key role in film-making, bringing out stories of marginalized groups in award-winning films including The Cut that has won several global accolades.

Driven by the concept of equity, particularly the provision of quality health care to disadvantaged groups, Gloria is responsible for providing sound and expert advice on all aspects of remote online learning for the youth advocates. She holds a dual Masters in Public Health and Health Promotion from Deakin University in Melbourne, Australia and worked with Youth Empowerment against HIV (YEAH), providing comprehensive sexual education and advocates for sexual and reproductive health rights amongst the youth.

An expert herder and passionate pastoralist, Samuel Abraham has vast experience on issues regarding young people and servant leadership. His background is in International Relations and Security Studies with a minor in Communication from Daystar University, where he also served as a student leader for two terms. Before joining Y-ACT Abraham was a Human Rights Monitor with Kenya National Commission on Human Rights in Samburu and Laikipia Counties. In his free time, he likes to read a book while looking after his cattle in the vast fields of the arid Samburu County.

Valarie Musavi

As a champion in amplifying the urgency of adolescent girls and young women access to Sexual Reproductive Health Rights (SRHR), she has meaningfully contributed to regional consultations, research and position papers tailored for the youth agenda for accountability and inclusivity. With over 5 years’ experience in Gender Equality Advocacy, having worked at Personal Initiative for Positive Empowerment (PIPE), the African Women’s Development and Communication Network (FEMNET) and National Gender and Equality Commission (NGEC), she is zealous about development agendas for girls and young women empowerment through SRHR advocacy and discourse, stakeholder engagement, Kenyan feminist movement building, scribing and youth cohesion agenda.
Valarie is a Gender and Development graduate from the University of Nairobi and strives to turn off the patriarchy switch and provide a clean slate for all genders to live equally and fulfilled.

He has a background in youth development and has over nine years’ experience in community led advocacy initiatives.
Clayton enjoys working with youth, children and women on thematic development issues and is a highly skilled front line development worker, fast learner and engages in problem-solving through innovative solutions to everyday problems.

Lilian gels the team as the Project Officer in charge of Administration. She ensures the Y-ACT cog wheels run smoothly through the coordination of all Y-ACT activities and events. Prior to joining Y-ACT, Lilian’s previous role was at Amref International University under the department of Community Health Practice where she oversaw the domestication and roll out of the Student Management portal. Lilian holds a Bachelor of Education(Arts) degree from Kenyatta University and she is currently pursuing her Masters Degree in Business Administration at the same institution. She is driven by education and economic empowerment especially for young girls.

At Y-ACT, she leads in capacity strengthening and mentorship of youth led organizations in Kilifi County to engage in effective advocacy to advance their policy priorities. She is also involved in strategy development and implementation by the county partners, oversees relationships with partners at county level.
Joyce brings over 7 years’ experience in rural and urban development, varied development and humanitarian involvement which has strengthened her skills in policy development, advocacy, government relations, partnerships, community dialogues project management, mentorships and facilitation.
She is a Bachelor of Environmental Science graduate with lots of experience in Menstrual, Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights.

Faith leads the OD strengthening and support for Y-ACT partners at grassroots level including financial management, governance and grants management. She has 11 years working experience at Amref Health Africa, working with grassroots organizations and was part of the team that led the development of Amref’s framework that has been used to manage and strengthen capacity of over 1,000 CSOs across Kenya. She is currently pursuing a Masters degree in Business Management (Strategic Management) from Daystar University and holds a Bachelor of Science in Community Development from Egerton University.
