Y-ACT KAKAMEGA CHAPTER

Of the significant SRHR related issues young people face in Kakamega county, the alarming rates of teenage pregnancies in the county have captured the attention of the Y-ACT Kakamega Chapter. This has been attributed to the inadequate access to adolescent and youth friendly sexual and reproductive health services in Kakamega county. The ultimate goal for the Kakamega Chapter is to contribute to the reduction of adolescents and teen pregnancy within the county from 19%-10% by 2021.

Through partnerships with the county department of health and youth advocates, the Kakamega chapter endeavors to address the inadequate access to SRHR information and youth services in Kakamega county by March 2020. This will also involve the development and adoption of policy documents with approved guidelines on CSE to be discussed by the county executive and disseminated to schools, health facilities, communities and local administration in Kakamega county by Dec 2020.

The Kakamega chapter also seeks to develop strategic relationships with county government leaders, media, law enforcement as well as religious leaders which prove to be beneficial in reducing the rates of teenage pregnancies. Further, meaningful engagement of young people particularly in the decision-making processes within the county, will also contribute to the reduction in numbers of reported and unreported teen pregnancy cases.
