ICPD25 Commitments – Africa

Africa has about 471 ICPD commitments. The following are a summary of some of its commitments grouped in 8 thematic areas which young SRHR champions across Africa want to prioritize.

1.YOUTH FRIENDLY POLICIES

  • Integrating menstrual health in SRHR, public health and multi-sectoral policies, strategies and frameworks.
  • FutureLife-Now! Empowered adolescents making responsible and informed decisions and choices.
  • Network of African Parliamentary Committees of Health (NEAPACOH) “Building the capacity of African policy makers for enhanced implementation of ICPD PoA and improved reproductive health outcomes.
  • Network of African Parliamentary Committees of Health (NEAPACOH) “Building the capacity of African policy makers for enhanced implementation of ICPD PoA and improved reproductive health outcomes.
  • Commitment of West African Youth.
  • Output 3: Ensured that the DD is positioned in support the ICPD, 2030 agenda, and SDG’s, through advocacy and programming

2.END GENDER BASED VIOLENCE (GBV) & HARMFUL PRACTICES

  • Support to the global action in ending harmful and traditional practices (HTPs) and achieving SDG target 5.3.
  • Network of African Parliamentary Committees of Health (NEAPACOH) “Building the capacity of African policy makers for enhanced implementation of ICPD PoA and improved reproductive health outcomes.
  • Commitment of faith actors at Nairobi Summit on ICPD.
  • Implementation of SRHR programmes through bilateral cooperation in 5 partners countries

3.COMPREHENSIVE SEXUALITY EDUCATION (CSE) & ACCESS TO SEXUAL AND REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH (SRH) SERVICES AND INFORMATION

  • Integrating menstrual health in SRHR, public health and multi-sectoral policies, strategies and frameworks.

  • Increasing contraceptive uptake and reduction in teenage pregnancies among women and girls living in underserved urban communities.
  • Youth Indaba Commitment Statement on Youth-led Accountability for delivering on political commitments on Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR), HIV and Gender Equality in the SADC region through youth-led accountability.
  • Output 3: Ensured that the DD is positioned in support the ICPD, 2030 agenda, and SDG’s, through advocacy and programming.
