Tuungane Youth Group was founded in the year 2007 as a peace and coexistence advocacy organization in Kakamega; motivated by the post-election conflict that occurred after the year 2007 elections.

Over time, the group integrated other social economic, cultural, HIV/AIDS and environmental activities in its projects in order to impact on lives of youth by changing their perceptions and attitude. Since it was founded, TYG has implemented various programmes with different partners including Common Ground Kenya  project, IEBC civic education programme, APHIA II and Aphia plus sexual reproductive health for teens, KPLC environmental management and forestation project, Total War Against AIDs rounds 3,5 and 6 with the National Aids Control Council and the World Bank-peer education, increasing uptake of ART and Home based care projects, The Omega foundation HIV/AIDs programme, Kenya Livestock and Research Organization-the poultry project among others. Currently the group is actively partnering with the Youth Alive Kenya in promoting democracy.
