Bitania is an award-winning and passion-driven young African leader who has been playing key interventional roles to foster the inclusion of youth in public policy and decision-making processes at national, continental and global levels. She is the Programme Director of Y-ACT, Youth in Action at Amref Health Africa Headquarters. She previously served as the Youth Advocacy Advisor at Amref Ethiopia for USAID’s $60 Million Integrated Youth Activity – Kefeta project, the largest youth portfolio implemented across Ethiopia aiming to create empowered youth who advance their own economic, civic, and social development. Bitania helped establish and served as the Chair of Amref’s Youth Council, prior to joining Amref as a staff, to ensure youth leadership in development agendas through multi-sectoral youth-adult partnership. Moreover, due to her extensive work in youth development and engagement in continental policy formulation and implementation, Bitania was appointed as the First Special Adviser on Youth to EU Commissioner for International Partnerships in 2021 to inform EU’s global youth engagement in its policy frameworks. Bitania has a Masters in Human and Economic Development in African Studies and a BSc in Electrical and Computer Engineering. She has received several international accolades for her impact, including her listing in 100 Most Influential Young Africans twice, honorary ambassadorship for AU/CIEFFA and selection as one of the 35 Obama Leaders Africa Program 2022.
